Pipeline Integrity Management
An organised, all-encompassing, and integrated strategy for proactively addressing threats to pipeline integrity is known as pipeline integrity management. A subterranean pipeline’s integrity is checked using direct assessment, in-line inspection, and pressure testing techniques. Plans for managing pipeline integrity properly should include :
- Tests needed to increase pipeline system performance and ensure continuous leak-free operation.
- Direct evaluation techniques used to maintain and watch over pipelines and spot any problems.
- Assessment of pipeline flaws.
- Proactive control of each pipeline site’s rate of corrosion.
- A predicted leak-free duration that engineers have calculated between integrity assessments.
All of these factors are assessed and managed using the pipeline integrity management approach from CONSULTECH. Your pipeline integrity management programme can receive a detailed plan from our corrosion engineering team.

The current pipeline integrity management requirements were developed with assistance from CONSULTECH Engineers, who also continue to offer consulting services for :
- Integrity management plan development
- High consequence area (HCA) identification
- Pre-assessment planning and baseline assessment plans
- Direct assessment surveys
- Auditable trail and reporting
What is Pipeline Integrity Management ?
Pipeline Integrity Management (PIM) is a set of efforts aimed at ensuring pipeline integrity. For example, corrosion can affect pipeline integrity and shorten its life. Therefore, it is very important to prevent this. With PIM, operators can use corrosion rates to estimate where corrosion is most likely to occur in pipelines and estimate the time to failure.
PIMs fall into three broad categories.
Pipeline assessment review includes detailed observation of pipeline internal and external sections, profile calculations, flow modelling, corrosion rate determination, risk status, etc. By identifying internal and external defects or damage, professionals can determine the condition of pipelines and plan repairs before failures occur.
Software tools can assess pipeline corrosion profiles and provide real-time inspection and monitoring data. Operators can also mitigate additional risks by simulating fault conditions.
The pipeline operator’s main control room can be monitored by a SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system. This system collects critical information about pipeline operations and relays data to engineers and technicians when problems arise.
Surveillance cameras and sensors, fibre optic cables, and temperature sensors placed on or near pipelines can also check for leaks and prevent hazards.
Pipeline Maintenance Plan :
A pipeline integrity management plan includes all activities aimed at maintaining or repairing a pipeline. Definition of operations and procedures, inspection, maintenance, pipeline monitoring, and corrosion protection. Route planning includes site assessment and assessment of environmental impacts on surrounding areas.
Project Management (PM) :
PM in pipeline integrity management includes audits such as corrosion control, data management, maintainability, burst service, and third-party verification.
